The Team Leader, Laboratory will work Regular Full-Time from Monday to Friday, 8AM - 5PM.

Works independently to oversee and coordinate technical functions and activities of the technical area while ensuring adherence to regulations and service to laboratory customers. Ensures accuracy and timeliness of daily work.

The Team Leader, Laboratory assists with result review for the clinical lab tests performed over the past 24 hrs as defined by the technical section and shift in accordance with state and federal regulations as directed by the Technical Specialist/Coordinator. Follows up as appropriate as documented on the exception or master log report and reviewed periodically by the Technical Specialist/Coordinator.

Performs and verifies (reports) laboratory tests and/or prepares products for transfusion on acceptable specimens to obtain accurate data in accordance with established procedures and protocols and in a timely manner.

Performs quality control (QC), and proficiency testing (PT) as assigned.

Maintains laboratory equipment, instruments, reagents and/or supplies required in performance of job responsibilities.

Maintains a clean and orderly work environment.

Assists with the training of new staff assigned by Technical Specialist/Coordinator. Gathers data for special projects to support the quality initiatives of the department. Performs supervisory functions in the absence of the Technical Specialist.

Required responsibilities for all clinical laboratory positions.

Completes the laboratory safety exam on an annual basis and achieves a score of 90%.
Completes the laboratory compliance exam on an annual basis and achieves a score of 90%.
Completes 1 hour of compliance training annually as defined by the department.
Attains and documents at least 22 units of continuing education annually as defined by departmental policy.
Attends at least 75% of department staff meetings. Review minutes of missed meetings and departmental communication meetings as noted by documentation on the minutes.
Keeps the Technical Specialist /Coordinator informed and communicates effectively to staff to ensure vital patient and operational information is usually shared among co-workers and shifts appropriately as indicated by departmental feedback and/or observed by manager.
Maintains technical competence within areas of responsibility by completing annual competency requirements as defined by departmental policy and documented within the department.
Understands the existing and potential hazard in the work area in such a way as to prevent injury/illness by following hospital and laboratory health and safety policies and procedures 100% of the time as indicated by departmental feedback and/or observed by manager.
Corrects and/or reports any safety hazard or malfunctioning of equipment to supervisor/charge person within their work shift as indicated by departmental feedback and/or observed by manager.
Follows hospital and departmental polices and procedures related to compliance to assure current Medicare regulations are upheld as indicated by departmental feedback and/or observed by manager.

Qualifications
Bassett Healthcare Network follows the New York State and New York State Department of Health COVID-19 vaccine mandates for healthcare workers. Education:
Must be qualified as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in accordance with New York State Department of Health regulations.

Experience:
Six (6) years of varied Laboratory experience following completion of a Bachelor's degree is required.
Four (4) years of experience with a master's degree.
Previous direct experience with a LIS is desired.

Licensure/Certificates:
Licensure by NYS SED as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist required, OR licensure-eligible with a limited permit or limited license as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
Limited Permit is granted to individuals that meet the educational requirements for licensure except for the licensing examination which must be taken within one year from the issuance of a limited permit.

Scope of Practice:
Individuals are required to practice within the responsibilities of their license, and perform specific tasks for which they have been deemed competent.

Physical Requirements:
Position requires regular sitting, standing and walking.
Must be able to push/pull less than 50 lbs and lift objects of less than 50 lbs.
Must be able to identify and differentiate colors
