Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistantopening in western Montana! PA/NP ... Correctional (24 to 40 hours per week available) The position will provide primary care including mental health care to incarcerated persons within the Detention Center. Ensure continual access to healthcare for incarcerated persons. Oversee the delivery of medical care and ensure meeting the identified needs of the incarcerated population. Follow the guidelines of the Department of Corrections and the Detention Center. Both visitors and residents enjoy performances by the city"s symphony, University of Montana sports, an annual film festival and many great events.Duties and Responsibilities:-Provide primary care for offenders including obtaining a complete medical history and physical exam-Interpret and integrate data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed-Collaborate with nursing staff in managing acute and long term medical needs of incarcerated men and women-Order appropriate lab and diagnostic procedures-Synthesize data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention-Prescribe medications-Interview and advise inmates regarding health and illness prevention-Utilize community resources to teach, provide follow up care as appropriate, and provide other support services-Instruct inmates regarding medication use and treatment of illness-Maintain and review inmate medical records, charts and other pertinent data-Communicate clearly and effectively with nursing personnel as to the course of treatment-Manage medical emergencies-Provide monitoring-Document activities with incarcerated populations clearly, thoroughly and include time-Be available for consultation, for nursing, mental health and facility staff-Limited medical supervision of nursing staff; sign off charts-Work closely with mental health providers, Department of Correction staff, Detention Center staff and management, and PPMT staff.-Assist in the evaluation of staff and recommend disciplinary action when appropriate-Assist in hiring and oversee orientation of new staff members-Attend all required meetings and participate in committees as requested-Follow all Department of Corrections rules, regulations and policies and ensure that medical staff is meeting the same standards Other Requirements Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handleconstantly changing situations. Demonstrates the ability to deal with a variety of people, manage stressful situations, andhandle conflict. Ability to successfully work in an environment and with a population that can be stressful. Ability to work well with others in a positive, respectful and professional manner Ability to work independently and as a successful team member Maintain a background free from violations of laws, rules, etc. Use universal precautions when applicable Remain violation free from Detention Center disciplinary action Professional RequirementsMaintain licensure Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time Maintains confidentiality at all times Complies with all health and safety guidelines Attends department staff meetings as required Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI)activities Coordinates efforts in meeting regulatory compliance, federal, state and local regulations andstandards Complies with PPMT policies and procedures Communicates and complies with the PPMT mission and values including the In This Together work place values and customer service standards Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner Adheres to dress code Completes annual educational/licensure requirementsEducation Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or successful completion of an approved Physician Assistant program. Currently licensed to practice in state of Montana Administrative experience preferred Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practice and medical care to give and evaluate patient care Knowledge of organization policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment Position offers competitive compensation and benefits!
